Cách dùng

• Much as I like him, I can’t hire him. = Although I like him very much.
• Hard as she tried / Try as she might, she failed.
• Child though he is, he understands. (danh từ không mạo từ sau though).
• Albeit late, he came. Albeit thường + tính từ/phân từ, ít + mệnh đề đầy đủ.

Tip chuyên / bẫy đề

• However hard she tried = No matter how hard she tried. SAI However she tried hard (trật tự).
• As vừa nhân vừa nhượng: Young as he is = Although he is young (nhượng bộ khi adj đảo trước as).

• Lest = để không / sợ rằng: He whispered lest he (should) be heard.
• For fear that she might miss the train, she left early.
• So as not to wake the baby, they crept in. (so as to / in order to + V; phủ định not to).
• In order that / so that + S + can/could/will/would/may/might.

Tip chuyên / bẫy đề

• Lest đã mang nghĩa phủ định — không thêm not. SAI lest he should not be heard (thừa not, trừ khi muốn đảo nghĩa).
• In order to + V cùng chủ ngữ; in order that khi đổi chủ ngữ.
